ASBA Technical Meeting
Recap
If you were at the ASBA's recent Technical Meeting, you know how
valuable it was. The opening general session by Robert Stevenson,
whose alternately serious and humorous take on business practices
("How the Best Got Better") kicked off the 2010 event. From that
point on, sessions of all kind continued to entertain and enlighten
participants.

Protect Your Reputation
and Minimize Warranty Issues
There isn’t a company in existence that hasn’t dealt with questionable
work or services. A company’s character and reputation is determined by
job performance and customer relationships. Many problems are not black
and white. It may be a disgruntled owner, not fully aware of the results
they should receive. Possibly the client has unusually high expectations
or a demanding personality. Larger contracts create additional work to
be evaluated, and more likelihood some of the work might be questioned.
The goal of lowering customer complaints is something we all want to
achieve.

TIA NEWS
ASBA Members Help with
TIA Court Builder Survey, Enjoy TIA Membership Benefits
Court
Builder Survey
At the ASBA Technical Meeting in
Ponte Vedra Beach, the Tennis
Industry Association distributed
a brief survey for court
contractors designed to help
gather valuable information for
the tennis industry as a whole,
and for the court contracting
business specifically. The
dozens of responses--all
confidential and not
identifiable with specific
companies--will be used to help
develop important benchmarks for
the industry.
Questions
included number of courts built
and resurfaced for each year
2008, 2009 and 2010; percentage
of public vs. private projects;
estimates of whether business
was up or down in 2010 vs. 2009;
projections for work in 2011;
and whether the business built
shorter QuickStart courts
or installed QuickStart lines.
All court
contractors who participated in
the survey at the Technical
Meeting were eligible for a
drawing to receive a $200 gift
certificate for Staples. Steve
Wright, CTCB of Trans Texas
Tennis (Hot Springs, Arkansas)
was the lucky winner.
ASBA Tennis Division has
Complimentary TIA Membership
ASBA tennis members also have
complimentary membership in the
TIA, and among the many tools
and benefits the TIA provides to
the industry and to its members
is key research and market data.
For court contractors, this
information includes court
construction trends, revenue
expectations, profit vs. loss
breakdowns and much more. TIA
members also receive many other
benefits, including FedEx
shipping discounts through the
PartnerShip program, and
TennisInsure, a custom insurance
program for business, health,
liability, property, auto,
umbrella and workmen¹s comp.

May We Quote You?
One of ASBA's most important programs is its
technical articles, which are written for trade magazines in various
segments of the industry, including tennis, track, indoor and fields
facilities. We are always looking for our members to comment on, and be
quoted in these articles. This is an excellent chance to help raise
ASBA's profile, and in an ancillary capacity, to increase visibility for
your company. If you would like to be quoted in these articles, please
send an e-mail to Mary Helen Sprecher at
mhsprecher@verizon.net.
Please indicate your area(s) of expertise: Tennis, Track, Indoor, Fields
so that we do not bother you with excess e-mail. You can be added to
more than one mailing list if you wish.
If you have previously sent Mary Helen an e-mail asking to be added to
her e-mail list, please confirm now that you would like to remain on the
list. In addition, if your e-mail has changed and you have not been
receiving questions, please contact her with your current e-mail
address.
